Initially, growth was through the expansion of the retail pool business and Pacific Pools became one of the largest pool builders in the country with locations in Syracuse, NY, Hartford, CT, Providence, RI, Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA.

During the 1960’s, Pacific Pools entered the manufacturing side of the business to develop new products to best meet the needs of consumers.

The business was sold to Cookson Group PLC in 1989 along with Latham Splash Canada, originally founded in 1981 as Technican Industries.  The company was reacquired by Mark Laven in 2001 along with a private equity group.

Since that time under Mark Laven’s leadership, the company has strengthened its industry leadership position by acquiring Triac Pool Products in 2002; Kafko Manufacturing with locations in the U.S. and Canada in 2003; Fort Wayne Pools in 2004; Viking Pools (fiberglass) in 2005; and Coverstar, LLC (automatic pool covers) in 2006. In 2010, Viking Pools acquired Blue Hawaiian Pools (fiberglass) and Trilogy Pools (fiberglass); in 2012 Viking acquired Royal Fiberglass Pools, Inc.

As the company flourished the Latham family of brands has become recognized throughout the world as the largest manufacturer of swimming pool components and pool accessories. Its broad product line now includes in-ground and above ground vinyl liners, polymer and steel pool wall systems, fiberglass pools, steps, ladders, pool safety covers and autocovers, spillover spas and a variety of other pool related products.

Latham currently operates 23 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. In 2015, Latham Pool Products became a portfolio company of Wynnchurch Capital, Ltd.
